United States of Tara: Season 1
I really didn't know what to expect when I started watching this show. The concept, about a woman with multiple personalities who also happens to be married with 2 kids, seemed too wacky of a premise. Yet somehow this show defies all expectations. Created and written by Diablo Cody (Best Original Screenplay Oscar winner for "Juno"), the show is hilarious but also touching and moving. Tara is a fully realized character who feels like such an average wife and mom that you sometimes forget you're watching someone with a deep mental illness. Toni Collette (who won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Tara) is really a trip to watch. She plays all the alternate personalities with such gusto that you enjoy every minute of the crazy ride.
