Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

Not to be confused with the original animated Disney version, which is a lot more fun than this one.  Johnny Depp gives an uneven performance as the Mad Hatter, who at times is sweet as a lamb with an adorable soft-spoken sort of lisp and at other times when he is angry develops a full-on Scottish accent.  It was a little confusing to say the least.  Mia Wasikowska does her best to play the plucky titular heroine, but ultimately the character falls flat as does the majority of this film.  All the elements of the Lewis Carroll classic are there, but somehow Tim Burton manages to suck all the joy and wonder out of the story.  The only highlight of the movie is the glorious Helena Bonham Carter as the sadistic Red Queen, who apparently was the only one who was allowed to have any fun with the role.
